Nodame Cantabile

Megumi Noda, or “Nodame” is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. An extremely talented pianist who wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. She is messy and disorganized, takes baths several days apart and loves to eat, sometimes stealing her friend’s lunchbox when it is filled with delicacies.

Shinichi Chiaki, is Momogaoka’s top student. Born into a musical family, he is talented in piano and violin and has secret ambitions to become a conductor. An arrogant multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the world as a young boy, he feels mired in Japan because of a childhood phobia.

They meet by accident. Nodame quickly falls in love, but it takes much longer for Chiaki to even begin to appreciate Nodame’s unusual qualities. Their relationship causes them both to develop and grow. Because of Nodame, Chiaki got the opportunity to lead a student orchestra and begins to have a broader appreciation of people's musical abilities. Because of Chiaki, Nodame faces her fears and enters a piano competition. Opportunities open up as both begin taking risks, stretching themselves far more than they ever thought possible.

Story: The story is about a strange love between complete opisites. Megumi Noda (aka Nodame), the female lead, is a piano student who is extreemly talented but wants to become a kindergarden teacher. Shinichi Chiaki, the male lead, is the college's top student talented at piano and violin and wants to become a conductor. Nodame falls in love with Chiaki, but it takes practically the whole series for him to appreciate her. The plot could have been funnier, but was a little boring (in my opinion).

Acting: The acting was okay, but thats all I can say about it.

Music: The drama was centered around classical music, unfortunatly I felt like it was more about that then the plot. Sure, I like classical music, but when I watch a drama I don't want to have more music than anything else.

Overall: Don't watch it. I know I may seem harsh but I did watch it all in two days... Maybe that's why the classical music got to me. If you plan to watch it (and aren't taking my review seriously) then I bid you to take your time, don't watch it too quickly or you will join me in my dislike of this drama

The story of a man and a woman
a perfectionist who demands no less and accepts no mistakes. A girl afraid of perfection, who wishes only to enjoy her music to the fullest. Together the complement each other, chang begin a change, both as individuals, and as a couple.

I think that about sums up this drama pretty well so now let's get into details on other matters.

I have basically just streamlined the drama in my first paragraph so i will now focus on the acting. It was pretty good, at times i personally wasn't excited about it, but it was good enough that it didn't bother me too much.

The music, it's based on classical pieces. having grown up with years of orchestra and classical music surrounding me, i absolutely adored hearing these pieces, and enjoying the performances of said pieces. It's definately something that someone who initially didn't like classical will love this drama or hate it, love it and discover the wonders of classical, or hate it along with their similar dislike for the "older" musics.

as such i very much enjoyed it, i actually at one point had it as #8 or 9 on my list of top 10 dramas i've evr watched. the list has changed over time, but it's relative rank among my favorites is still pretty high.

a nice little gem of a drama
